UVM's athletic program is highly regarded throughout the country and has produced many professional athletes.

The 2011-2012 athletic season is expected to be yet another successful year for Vermont’s top athletes. The University of Vermont features 20 NCAA Division 1 varsity sports ranging from skiing, swimming and diving to lacrosse and track and field.

The University of Vermont hockey teams look to build off their teams’ success at Gutterson Fieldhouse last season where the men’s hockey team will battle for top spot in the highly-competitive Hockey East Association including University of New Hampshire and Providence College. The team will also host the Catamount Cup featuring nationally respected programs and, in December host the Russian All-Stars in an exhibition game. The women’s hockey team schedule features highly anticipated match-ups with Boston University, University of Maine and some of the country's top non-conference schools including Niagara University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Over on the court, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams hope to build on last year's successful America East seasons, and strive to earn a ticket to the NCAA’s “Big Dance”. The men’s team has dominated America East over the past decade, repeating as champions for three consecutive years.
